State CIO group announces finalists for annual awards program
Wisconsin’s e-government program and Connecticut’s work to bring super-fast internet to its agencies were among the 37 initiatives selected as finalists for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers’ annual State IT Recognition Awards.
The finalists were selected from 130 projects, nominated from the 50 NASCIO member states, territories and the District of Columbia. The program, in its 28th consecutive year, aims to “honor outstanding information technology achievements in the public sector,” according to a release from NASCIO. Volunteer judges in the state IT community will peer review projects to select winners.
The finalists represent 20 different states, plus the District of Columbia. Michigan has the most finalist positions, with four projects recognized. California and Virginia follow with three initiatives.
“At its core, this program is about honoring the innovative and important work in state IT that often goes uncelebrated,” said Delaware CIO James Collins, who chaired the NASCIO committee with Indiana CIO Dewand Neely that selected the finalists.
Last year, programs in Colorado, Virginia, Oregon, Minnesota, Ohio, Idaho, Michigan and North Carolina received State IT Recognition Awards.
The 2016 winners will be announced in September at NASCIO’s Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.
