National League of Cities launches sustainable city site
The National League of Cities’ Sustainable Cities Institute launched a new website Monday aimed at helping cities become more sustainable.
The website provides a complete sustainability toolkit that features city profiles and best practices, case studies, model policies and communication tools that cities can use to build strong and healthy communities that thrive on creativity, transparency and trusted relationships.
“Cities across America understand the vital importance of incorporating sustainability into everything we do, our transportation systems, new projects and redevelopment, water infrastructure and waste management, to name a few,” said NLC President Chris Coleman, mayor, Saint Paul, Minn. “The Sustainable Cities Institute’s new website provides local elected officials and their staffs with a single toolbox that contains the information and resources they need to create sustainable solutions that will keep our cities vibrant and healthy for future generations.”
The site features a collection of tools, information and resources for those just getting started in sustainability as well as local officials and professionals with advanced experience working with sustainability issues. Profiles on a number of cities from Saint Paul, Minn. to Austin, Texas, provide information about their commitments to sustainability, internal operations and accomplishments that serve as case studies and best practices that can apply to communities across America.
In addition, topics on variety of subjects provide detailed resources for how cities can be sustainable in their operations and projects. Topics include:
