New mobile dev program now available for Texas libraries

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission announces a new program to assist libraries that want to develop or enhance their mobile presence.

From Funding for TexShare Libraries to Go Mobile:

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) announces a new program to assist libraries that want to develop or enhance their mobile presence. TSLAC will support TexShare libraries or library consortia interested in building or expanding their mobile presence through mobile-accessible library catalogs, mobile-accessible library web sites, and/or mobile apps. This can include design changes to existing sites/catalogs or complete alternatives specifically made for the mobile environment. TSLAC is offering subsidies ranging from $3,000 to $15,000 (depending upon library type and size). Applications are available at the program website (https://www.tsl.state.tx.us/texshare/mobilesolutions). TSLAC will fund as many qualifying applications as funding permits on a “first-come-first-funded” basis. The final date to submit an application is March 4, 2013.

Learn more at an informational webinar, “Funding Your Mobile Solutions: A Program from TSLAC,” scheduled at 10:00 on January 10, 2013. Register for this one-hour webinar. The webinar will be archived for persons unable to attend.

Additional information is also available at the program website at https://www.tsl.state.tx.us/texshare/mobilesolutions . Questions can be addressed to Beverley Shirley at texshare@tsl.state.tx.us or by phone to 800-252-9386.

The mobile technologies program grew out of recommendations generated at the TexShare Statewide Resource Sharing Summit held in February 2012, at which attendants identified mobile technologies as a top priority for libraries. The program goal is to ensure that member libraries have a mobile presence useful to, and used by, their customers.
