DEI tracking, live traffic data, stylish websites among exports of latest CivStart graduates

Nine startups specializing in government technology are graduating this week from a two-year accelerator program at CivStart, a nonprofit focused on improving government operations, where they received fundraising support, mentorship and pitch opportunities to the public sector.

Among the startups is Beam, a financial transaction platform that helps governments, private and non profits deliver cash assistance and public benefits to constituents. It can verify and process applicants, allows users to pay people quickly and tracks metrics. According to the CivStart, the startup has distributed $175 million in rental and utility assistance and cash grants to more than 300,000 families since 2020.

Cloud Driven Solutions is an application that aims to solve agenda management for local municipalities using tools that offer civic meeting agendas, minutes recording, integrations with other hardware and software providers, as well as greater transparency for local residents.

Enpira helps cities and counties adopt more environmental sustainability in their facility operations. The cloud software maintains records of electricity, natural gas and water usage at government facilities. It also tracks weather data to create real-time assessments of energy usage.

GridMatrix is a software designed to eliminate city traffic congestion, accidents and emissions using live feeds from sensors, cameras, radars, inductive loops and lidar, transforming the data into real-time metrics. The startup claims to reduce the time and cost associated with transportation planning and analysis by increasing the amount of data available to decision makers.

Kaizen is a software municipal departments can use to offer their constituents more stylish and easy-to-use websites. The company advertises that interfaces can be customized to fit a municipality’s brand, aesthetic and design system. The startup says it will provide free software updates, design improvements and performance tweaks in perpetuity.

Polimorphic wants to replicate private sector operating systems for the public sector. The startup offers a platform that allows governments to automate processes, log records and communicate with constituents in one place.

The Equity Brain Trust is a platform that aggregates diversity, equity and inclusion data across government operations to help officials identify policy solutions and make more DEI investments.

Thirdline is a revenue and finance startup that provides risk assessments to speed up audits so government watchdogs can deliver data-based recommendations to organizations faster.

ThruGreen focuses on improving transportation by connecting traffic light management systems to live traffic data, aiming to reduce wait times for commuters at red lights and carbon dioxide emissions.

CivStart plans to announce a 12-month, AI accelerator cohort on Sept. 4.
