A collaboration lead by the Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement allowed electronic filing of court pleadings.

State IT Innovation of the Year

The Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement, Department of Technology and Office of the Executive Secretary of the Virginia Supreme Court collaborated on an innovative project that allows electronic filing of court pleadings. DCSE has successfully e-filed more than 2,500 initial petitions since October. Nine additional pleadings will be in use by June 2020. The project also includes an interface for up-to-date court hearing information. E-filing replaces a labor-intensive manual process, saving significant time and money for the agency and courts. More importantly, e-filing results in speedier judicial action, which helps families receive the financial support they need sooner.
