“Shadow IT”

Tarek Tomes, Minnesota CIO

“Shadow IT” refers to the use of technology within business units outside of the line-of-sight of a traditional IT organization. We really in today’s age are so tightly interrelated, everyone to some degree is a little bit of a technologist, whether they’re in an IT organization or not. It’s really not descriptive and it’s a very negative and confrontational term. It gives a sense that someone is hiding something and I don’t think that’s the intention at all.
