“Disruptive technology”

God, I hate that. States are the worst about this. They talk about disruptive technology and they forget about all those fundamental things that run their business. If I wasted my time on disruptive technology instead of making sure that I was doing all the basics extremely well, then I’m wasting the taxpayers’ money. It’s like every football coach I ever had said: “Great teams do ordinary things very, very well.” What am I trying to disrupt, anyway?
