Indiana launches public-private innovation group for farm sector
Indiana has created a new organization aimed at promoting innovation within the state’s agricultural sector and developing new markets for Indiana farmers.
AgriNovus is a public-private partnership that involves farm organizations, agribusinesses and state government along with Purdue University, and is aimed at fostering new technology and new markets for a variety of Indiana farm products.
“One of our initial goals for the organization was to build a recognizable brand that was not only a reflection of the sector, but also representative of the State of Indiana,” said Beth Bechdol, executive director for AgriNovus Indiana, in a press release as reported in Hoosier Ag Today. “We have all the ingredients for a very successful sector, but we just have not brought them all together.”
Earlier this year, AgriNovus Indiana initiated a study to examine the state’s agriculture biosciences assets and identify opportunities for future sector growth.
“Agribusiness is a $16 billion industry in Indiana that includes world-class leaders in research and development both in the private sector and at our state’s leading research universities,” Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann said in the release. She said AgriNovus would help the state invest more money into growing new markets for Indiana farm products.
