Fixing Florida: Robert Weissert discusses legislation to create new state tech agency
Robert Weissert, chief research officer for Florida Tax Watch, a nonpartisan and nonprofit research institute and government watchdog, joined StateScoop Radio to discuss legislation currently going through Florida’s legislature that – if passed – would create a new agency to oversee the state’s technology.
In the interview, Weissert discussed the legislation and its potential impact on the state, namely giving the state a chief information officer that would oversee and orchestrate the state government’s information technology needs.
He also gave insight into the state’s history with its IT oversight structure and how it reached a point where it is considered one of the poorest-performing in the nation and not efficiently spending taxpayer dollars.
