Lisa Gelobter, New York City’s chief technology officer and commissioner of the Office of Technology and Innovation, on Wednesday announced “Get Online NYC,” an awareness campaign that’s accompanied by a new online tool for New Yorkers to find digital resources.

The tool includes a new website and logo designed to make it easier for New Yorkers to find free digital resources, like free Wi-Fi, access to computers, technology classes and tech help, at more than 450 locations across the city. The campaign comes about one year after the publication of the NYC Digital Equity Roadmap, and an investment of $2.4 million in digital equity efforts at libraries, older adult centers and public housing across New York City.

The roadmap outlined 11 key actions to advance digital equity in underserved communities, including the hiring of the city’s first chief digital equity officer and the convening of a Digital Equity Working Group.

“Internet access is a key driver of opportunity and ultimately success for today’s New Yorkers,” Gelobter said in a news release. “OTI’s new Get Online NYC campaign makes it easier for residents to find free internet, as well as devices and digital skills classes, in their communities so that they can make the most of these essential resources. This exciting initiative, as well as our ongoing progress implementing the Digital Equity Roadmap, reaffirms our commitment to working with City agencies, community-based partners, and the public to build a more connected New York City.”
