Gov. Corbett launches newest feature on JobGateway, Pennsylvania’s job-matching website

Governor Corbett today unveiled Big Interview, the latest enhancement to Pennsylvania’s job-matching website, JobGateway?.  Big Interview, a mock interview tool to help job seekers prepare for the workforce, was introduced at Harrisburg Area Community College with Labor & Industry Secretary Julia Hearthway, HACC President John “Ski” Sygielski, State Workforce Investment Board (WIB) chairman Dave Malone, WIB members and HACC faculty and students.

“By connecting qualified candidates with open positions, JobGateway makes securing a good paying job even easier for Pennsylvanians,” said Corbett. “Through advancements like Big Interview, we are committed to giving jobs seekers the tools they need because building a stronger workforce builds a stronger Pennsylvania.”

JobGateway? adds new features every six weeks to provide job-seekers with the latest available technology and information. Big Interview offers site visitors the option of creating and recording an occupation-specific mock job interview that can be uploaded and sent to professors, friends, and family for feedback.

“Big Interview is just one more feature that JobGateway? offers job seekers to help them succeed,” said Hearthway. “We are confident that any job seeker looking to find a job in Pennsylvania will find the site incredibly helpful, intuitive to use, and an invaluable tool in their search.”

“HACC students and alumni will find Big Interview to be a tool they’ll want to use to help them best prepare for their job interviews,” said HACC president Sygielski. “The capabilities of this product will afford them numerous opportunities to enhance their personal interviewing skills and advance in their career fields.  In addition, this job-matching website will enable students and their families to determine which college majors will provide them the greatest opportunity to live the American dream.”

Labor & Industry research indicated that employers are often disappointed in the preparedness of job candidates. Big Interview was introduced to help address that concern.

“If job seekers are unable to convey their experience and qualifications to prospective employers, even the most skilled candidate may still not get the job,” said Malone. “Big Interview will go a long way towards helping jobs seekers learn how to present themselves.”

JobGateway? had more than 800,000 visits in January and averages more than 10,000 new job postings every day. The site is easy to use, free, and available in both a standard web and mobile-optimized format atwww.jobgateway.pa.gov.
