Idaho Gov. Brad Little on Wednesday announced that Alberto Gonzalez, who’s served as the state’s chief information officer since 2022, was appointed director of the state’s Department of Transportation.

Gonzalez, who is credited in a biography on Idaho’s website with 30 years of experience in the private and public sectors, including 20 years with the Idaho state government, will take over for Scott Stokes, a longtime public servant who announced his retirement in April. After nearly four years heading the Office of Information Technology Services, Gonzalez is slated to begin his new role this month.

In a press release, the governor called Gonzalez “an exceptional public servant” and called out his work leading “consolidation of IT services across state government”, major modernization efforts while serving as administrator of the state’s Division of Motor Vehicles and “key technology leadership roles” at state health agencies.
