West Virginia DMV expands online portal
Gov. Tomblin, DMV acting commissioner announce new online services
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Acting Commissioner Steve Dale today announced West Virginians may have the option to renew their vehicle registration and request a duplicate registration card through the DMV’s online service portal.
“The expansion of DMV’s online portal is part of our continued efforts to make DMV services more accessible and convenient,” Gov. Tomblin said. “West Virginians will now have the option to access a number of services from the comforts of their homes.”
“Improving customer service is DMV’s number one priority,” Acting Commissioner Dale said. “Customers can ‘skip the trip’ and conduct DMV business at their convenience any time by going to dmv.wv.gov – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Online vehicle registration renewal is currently available to residents of 43 West Virginia counties and is limited to passenger vehicles under 10,000 pounds and motorcycles. The new online process guides customers through providing proof of tax payment as part of the renewal. Customers will receive their registration card and decal in the mail within 10 to 14 business days. Individuals with plates expiring in May will receive online renewal information as part of their renewal notice from the DMV.
In addition to online registration renewals, West Virginians may also view their official driving record, access their driver’s license status and view a quick snapshot of their driving record. Drivers also have the option to view their detailed record by purchasing the complete record online. Once purchased, the record is immediately viewable online and is available for 10 days.
Other online services include paying driver’s license reinstatement fees, requesting a duplicate registration card, decal, or plate and change of address, trip permits, a personalized plate availability search, as well as dealer services. In addition, the online services portal provides links to the West Virginia counties that provide online payment of personal property taxes.
