New York tech office signs agreement with IBM for AI, cloud services
The New York State Office of Information Technology Services on Thursday announced it’s signed an an enterprise agreement with IBM for new artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud tools to several of the state’s agencies.
The agreement, which state officials said was signed in this year’s second quarter, is expected to deliver $6 million in taxpayer savings over the next three years. It will provide to some New York state agencies access to IBM’s hybrid cloud and AI software portfolio, equipping the state government’s workforce with tools that can automate business processes, modernize applications and strengthen cybersecurity.
Officials said in a press release that the agreement with IBM, which is headquartered in New York, was designed to help state agencies advance AI-powered productivity and “intelligent workflows,” application development, hybrid cloud and multi-cloud management, cybersecurity and data protection, data management and other business functions.
According to the state’s announcement, the technology agency has negotiated 14 enterprise-level agreements that have resulted in $58 million in annual savings for taxpayers. ITS and its agreements serve more than 50 state agencies and entities; the technology agency provides tools to more than 130,000 state employees.
“By inking this enterprise agreement with IBM, we have renewed our commitment to working to modernize our offerings, finding cost-effective solutions that work across multiple agencies, and delivering even more for the people of our State,” New York State Chief Information Officer Dru Rai said in the news release. “ We thank IBM for their ongoing partnership as ITS and New York State continue to focus on innovative solutions to serve New Yorkers.”
