7 things states should consider for mobile payments

With the rising use of mobile technologies by individuals and businesses to make purchases online, state agencies are confronting a number of new technical and policy issues as they look ahead and decide how best to prepare for the onslaught of mobile payments.

In an interview with StateScoop, Nolan Jones, the director of e-government innovation at services provider NIC, raises seven questions that state governments should at least begin discussing to make sure they can maintain a high level of customer service as payment technologies change.

“None of this has to be done today,” Jones said, “but it’s a conversation states need to begin having. The world of online payments is changing fast – as is all technology – and with states providing more and more services online, it’s something they need to be beginning to prepare themselves for.”
