Colorado launches mobile driver’s license for use at TSA checkpoints 

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis announced Monday the launch of the myColorado Mobile Driver License, sharing that it can be used at Denver International Airport along with 250 other participating airports. 

Speaking at Denver’s airport, Polis said the new digital identity offering allows residents to pass airport security checkpoints with a quick QR code scan and live photo taken at the checkpoint reader, which verifies identity, flight details and screening type for a simplified, convenient experience.

The governor said the app was built in compliance with international identity verification standards to allow seamless, privacy-focused screening without travelers having to hand over their physical ID, boarding pass or smartphone. Joined by officials from the state’s Governor’s Office of Information Technology and Department of Motor Vehicles, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and the Denver airport, Polis highlighted the enhanced security and convenience this technology brings for Coloradans. 

He also noted the mDL’s secure digital authentication, which can offer a viable backup in case of lost or stolen physical IDs.

“Finally! You can use your myColorado app to fly at the airport! We have been working on this for years and now the federal government will accept your myColorado app identification at airport security. I have prioritized delivering modern, digital government services for our residents and the myColorado app saves people time and makes life easier for Coloradans,” Polis said. 

“Airport travel can be stressful but we are making it easier, and more convenient to get through TSA at more than 250 airports across the country using the myColorado app. More than 2 million Coloradans already use the app to access digital IDs, hunting and fishing licenses, vehicle registrations, age verification, and more, now we can use it for more convenient travel,” he continued.  

Only the myColorado mDL is accepted by TSA, and the digital credential is separate from the app’s flagship Colorado Digital ID. Both are available in the myColorado Wallet and compatible with the Digital ID Verifier tool, which is also on the app and allows Coloradans to present secure QR codes on their mobile devices, while verifying parties, such as a businesses or state agencies, can scan them to confirm ID authenticity.
