Gordon announced Wednesday he’s selected Chief Information Security Officer Aaron Roberts to serve as interim CIO. Roberts has worked for the state’s Enterprise Technology Services department since 2021. His first day as interim CIO is Monday.

Sheehan was appointed Wyoming’s interim CIO for the second time in January 2023. He also served as interim CIO from May 2021 to January 2022 after former Wyoming CIO Bill Vajda resigned for health issues. (Vajda had replaced Gordon Knopp, who’d been dismissed from the role in 2021 alongside state health director Mike Ceballos after a data leak involving information collected from residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.)

As Wyoming’s interim CIO, Sheehan led the state enterprise technology division where he was tasked with creating strategic IT initiatives. He served on the state’s Cyber Assistance Response Effort, or CARE, team and sat on advisory boards.

Sheehan formerly served as information services administrator for the state government. He was also the state’s first cloud architect, according to the governor’s office.

“My time as Wyoming’s CIO has been nothing short of remarkable.” Sheehan wrote on LinkedIn. “Each day, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most dedicated, talented, and passionate individuals in public service. Together, we’ve weathered storms, celebrated victories, and forged bonds that transcend the confines of our workplace.”
