North Carolina’s DMV website works harder

Unveiling a new user-friendly mobile design and offering its most sought-after services at the tap of a finger, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ website premiered a new look today at www.ncdot.gov/dmv.

As part of DMV’s continuing improvements to customer service, the reformatted website works harder to give customers the information they need with more speed and ease. In addition to grouping its large variety of services in an easy-to-spot list, the site also locates a customer’s closest DMV office by city, county, zip code or global positioning navigation.

“Since just about everybody needs DMV information, it’s great to offer our customers the information they need quickly and help them find nearby offices,” said state Motor Vehicles Commissioner Kelly J. Thomas. “The best thing about our website may be that customers don’t always need to come to an office; they can find what they need online,” he said.

As the “official DMV website,” the site posts an array of helpful downloads and resources to help drivers and vehicle owners find the state laws and requirements they need. Since there are often “pretender websites” that try to sell DMV services, NCDMV encourages customers to be sure they are visiting the real DMV site, which offers many services free of charge.

NCDMV does not charge for items such as practice tests or forms. Some online services like driver license renewals online are not yet available, even though DMV is working toward making these available. And, driver handbooks, in English and Spanish, are available on the official website.

Whether a customer is a commercial truck driver, a motorcyclist, a new vehicle owner, moving into the state, or changing their name or address, they can find helpful information at DMV’s updated website, www.ncdot.gov/dmv.
