On Tuesday, Maryland launched a new mobile‑friendly website that lets residents apply for government benefits.

The Maryland Benefits One Application, developed by the Departments of Information Technology, Health, and Human Services, aims to streamline state benefits access for the 1.3 million Marylanders it serves through automation, artificial intelligence and more transparent budget reporting. Users can apply for like Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the Women, Infants, And Children program, and energy assistance.

Gov. Wes Moore’s office estimated that applying for benefits through the new system will take users about 28 minutes. The office said it also eliminates the need for in-person visits or multiple applications.

“Today, we take a big step forward in our work to ensure that Marylanders can access the basic services they need,” Moore said in the website’s announcement. “At a time when the federal government is walking back support for veterans, seniors, disabled residents, and working families, Maryland is proving there’s a better way.”
