Boulder, Colorado, has found its next chief innovation and technology officer in Jennifer Douglas, who will move from Colorado’s state IT office to assume the local role on June 15.

Douglas was announced by the city on Tuesday, and will be tasked with collaborating with other city departments to create a long-term technology strategy, according to city manager Jane Brautigam. Under Douglas, the city is also hoping to move more government services online so they’re available around the clock, Brautigam said.

“Jennifer’s strong innovation and strategy experience in both the private and public sectors provides an opportunity for the city to maximize opportunities to rethink government processes to better serve the community and to help the city become more effective and efficient in its use of technology and data,” City Manager Jane Brautigam said in a press release.

Boulder’s previous chief innovation and technology officer, Julia Richman, left the city in February to join Colorado Gov. Jared Polis’ staff to serve as the state’s chief strategy officer.

Douglas is currently serving as the deputy chief customer officer in the Colorado Governor’s Office of Information Technology, where she helps integrate the specific IT needs of each state agency into the greater statewide strategic IT plan. She also teaches online courses as an adjunct professor for Southern New Hampshire State University, and previously held chief information and innovation officer roles in the private sector before joining state government.
