As former Washington Chief Information Officer Jim Weaver heads to North Carolina, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee this week named an acting replacement.

Inslee’s office on Tuesday announced that Mark Quimby, deputy director for technology and operations at Washington Technology Solutions, will serve as the bureau’s acting director while the search for a new statewide CIO continues.

Quimby, who’s been with WaTech since 2014, has also held several other roles there, including assistant director for network services, enterprise data network manager and disaster recovery architect. Before joining WaTech, he spent 15 years in IT roles at the Washington State Department of Corrections.

“Mark has dedicated over 20 years of his career to serving the people of Washington state and I know he will utilize his experience to continue developing the level of service WaTech brings to state government,” Inslee said in a press release. “I look forward to collaborating with Mark, and I thank Jim for his service the past two years through some of our state’s most challenging and complex times.”

Weaver, who also spent three decades with the Pennsylvania state government before moving to Washington state, announced last month he accepted a job as the CIO of North Carolina, his third statewide CIO role.

Quimby will become WaTech’s acting director on March 11.
