Alabama creates new IT secretary role

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley signed a series of government efficiency measures Thursday that includes a high-level focus targeting the state's technology management and infrastructure.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley signed a series of government efficiency measures Thursday that includes a high-level focus targeting the state’s technology management and infrastructure.

The new legislation creates a secretary of information technology position that will take the lead on IT procurement consolidation and implementation across all state agencies.

“Our Secretary of Information Technology will help us organize I.T. to make it more efficient, to save taxpayer dollars and to make it more secure,” Governor Bentley said in a prepared release. “By improving coordination, we can make sure we’re spending money wisely and saving money where we can.”

According to the announcement, the new secretary will be appointed “in the near future.”
