Aloha state showcases behind-the-scenes tech in new Hawaii.gov

Hawaii launched a new Hawaii.gov focused on multidevice accessibility that integrates responsive design, including touch and horizontal scrolling.

Hawaii has launched a new website focused on multidevice accessibility with responsive web design, including touch and horizontal scrolling features.

New site elements on Hawaii.gov include trending services activity, a color-coded temperature island weather page, theme changer and “drawer” footer that expands to display additional site services.

A developers page highlights the technology the eHawaii.gov team used to create the site. The gateway portal was built using open source technologies, including the wiki-like markup language Markdown, Git for version control, Jenkins and Jekyll to deliver “stynamic” (static + dynamic) content.

Agency websites are now under a WordPress multisite instance with custom-developed content management plugins.

The site’s search feature is powered by the General Services Administration’s search tool USASearch.
