Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves on Thursday announced the educational Mississippi Statewide AI Framework, which creates a “structured, stage-by-stage map” for learners of all ages, from K-12 through career-age professionals, to advance their artificial intelligence skills.

The framework was developed by the state’s AI Workforce Readiness Council, a subcommittee of the State Workforce Investment Board, along with AccelerateMS, the state’s workforce development office and the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network, or MAIN. While not intended to be a curriculum or mandate, it will serve as a flexible guide that schools, colleges and workforce development centers can use to design programs that align with statewide priorities and local needs. In a news release, the state said the framework will evolve alongside AI as it advances.

It’s organized around 11 core AI skill domains, and defines AI competencies like foundational AI understanding, ethical reasoning, cybersecurity awareness and real-world application across Mississippi industries where AI is beneficial. These industries include precision agriculture, coastal resilience, advanced manufacturing and healthcare.

“Mississippi isn’t just attracting the industries of the future, we’re building them,” Reeves said. “This framework is another example of our state leading the way in American innovation. Artificial intelligence is going to transform industries, and this cutting-edge framework gives our students, educators, and workforce development partners a clear roadmap to ensure Mississippians have the education and skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing economy.”
