As cybersecurity support from the federal government dwindles, state and local officials are considering their options.

“When we talk about finding efficiencies, this is the way,” Nevada Chief Information Officer Timothy Galluzi said of the proposed security operations center.

State CISO Michael Gregg said the North Dakota-led interstate cyber operations center could grow to 15 states by the end of the year.

Angelo State University, in West Texas, will host what's eyed as the first of several regional security operations centers around the state.

Iowa plans to expand the center's operations in coming weeks, with around-the-clock threat monitoring and more services for local agencies.

Officials in North Dakota, which organized the initiative, said they expect to have an announcement about the unique organization this year.
