South Dakota IT systems back online after two-day power outage
South Dakota’s IT systems are being restored after a power outage at the state data center forced multiple agency services offline earlier this week.
On Thursday, the state Department of Health posted on social media that the Bureau of Information Technology had restored the State Data Center’s primary power system.
“Core services including internet, wireless, phone systems, and state radio are back online. “Recovery efforts remain a top priority, and teams continue working to fully restore all systems,” the post reads.
Yahoo reported that the disruption began on Tuesday when equipment at the state data center failed due to the loss of electricity, temporarily shuttering several state systems, including the Department of Revenue, the Department of Public Safety and the state attorney general’s office.
The South Dakota Supreme Court retroactively declared a judicial emergency on Wednesday in response to the outage downing the court system’s electronic payments and file management platforms. The court rescinded its emergency declaration Thursday after “being advised that all network systems are back up and operating.”
