Digital divide shrinking in North Carolina, says CIO

North Carolina Chief Information Officer Jim Weaver says the state is making great progress in connecting its residents to high-speed internet. In a video interview with StateScoop, Weaver says the state has managed to distribute about $500 million of its funding from the American Rescue Plan Act to improve access, and that the state is planning for another $500 million. Weaver says that 4,800 homes and businesses are now being connected to high-speed internet with that funding and that the state projects 80% of its underserved and unserved populations will be connected to broadband within the next two years.

This video was recorded on Sept. 30, 2024, at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers annual conference in New Orleans.
