Pennsylvania CIO explains purchase of ChatGPT licenses

On this week’s Priorities podcast, Pennsylvania Chief Information Officer Amaya Capellan says the state’s recent purchase of 50 enterprise ChatGPT licenses is a “natural way” for the state to get involved in generative artificial intelligence. Gov. Josh Shapiro announced the new pilot program with OpenAI earlier this month. Employees can use ChatGPT for tasks such as creating and editing copy, making outdated policy language more accessible and drafting job descriptions to help with recruitment and hiring. Capellan says the pilot project builds on a September 2023 executive order that set the groundwork for the state’s foray into AI.
