Tech will ‘support all the new things’ cities do, says San Francisco CIO

For Linda Gerull, San Francisco’s chief information officer, the mission of government is clear.

“Of course government is all about serving the residents,” Gerull says in a video interview from the California Innovation Summit, presented by VMware, Intel and Carahsoft and produced by StateScoop. “Technology plays an important part in that.”

In addition to efforts to bolster the city’s cybersecurity, Gerull also says technology will play a role in the future of how governments deliver services and how to foster engagement proactively with residents.

“You’ll see technology support all the new things that government is going to be delivering,” Gerull says. “Very innovative new approaches to government will be a result of the technology use.”
