AI can help students ‘learn in their own ways,’ says Washington D.C. tech chief

Like many cities and states, Washington D.C. is exploring how new generative artificial intelligence tools can help improve government services. City Chief Technology Officer Stephen Miller tells StateScoop that some early efforts, which the city outlined during two public listening sessions last month, will include using AI in classrooms. “People love to hear the fact that AI’s going to help these students learn in their own ways,” Miller says. “You can have an AI tailor a quiz toward their current learning level. You can also operate in almost any language, which is going to help a lot with those ESL students.”

This video was recorded on Oct. 1, 2024, at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers annual conference in New Orleans.
