Ransomware incidents in Baltimore and Jackson County, Georgia, and are extending a run of cyberattacks on state and local governments that officials say will likely continue.

The county was hit by the Ryuk virus, one of the most costly varieties of ransomware.

The attack knocked out all county email services and forced the sheriff's department to revert to recording arrests and jail bookings on paper.
