With 40 campuses and 30 military bases around the globe, Park University faces a unique challenge in delivering a uniformly excellent higher education experience to its more than 16,000 students. Technology is an essential component of university’s mission to unify its far-flung student body and ensure that accessibility is prioritized for every learner, on and off campus. The release of a custom Amazon Alexa skill last year, which allows students to do things like look up their grades and submit IT help requests, has helped ensure that each student has fast and easy access to important information. According to James Nelson, Park University’s vice president of IT services, the idea is to connect students so they feel as though they’re attending “one university.” Already the administrators say more than a quarter of its students have logged on to the voice-controlled platform by saying “Alexa, ask Park.”
