How Alaska moved 700 applications to the cloud without downtime

On this week’s Priorities podcast, Alaska Chief Information Officer Bill Smith reviews the challenges and successes of his state’s cloud migration, which so far has included more than 700 state applications. He says moving them from the state’s data centers into the cloud has been achieved without interrupting service to Alaska’s residents. Despite having small populations, Smith says, some Alaskan cities were challenged by their remote locations. Smith says the project is now entering its final phase and should be completed in the spring, just in time to integrate with an incoming generation of artificial intelligence tools.
