Ohio tries to minimize knowledge loss amid wave of retiring IT staff

As in other states, Ohio is in the middle of many technology projects. Ohio Chief Information Officer Katrina Flory tells StateScoop that one of them is figuring out a way to minimize knowledge loss as some of the state’s older workers retire. She said backfilling positions is piece of the plan, but that the state is also aiming to standardize more of its technology so that specialized knowledge of the state’s quirky IT systems isn’t needed. In a video interview, she details many other of the state’s ongoing projects, including an effort to assess risk of vendors and integration of the state’s Innovate Ohio services platform with more agencies. Flory says the state recently integrated it with the state’s tax system and is next planning to integrate with wildlife licensing and benefits systems.

This video was recorded on Oct. 1, 2024, at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers annual conference in New Orleans.
