Partnerships key for IT, says Hawaii’s CIO

Christine Sakuda, who took over as Hawaii’s chief information officer last August, says that “partnerships” have been key to her leadership strategy so far, including building relationships with other agencies and vendors. Understanding the business needs of each agency, she says, has been important as she supports their work through the enabling of data sharing, providing cybersecurity services and enabling application portfolios. She pointed to the state’s regenerative tourism efforts, critical after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down much of the state’s tourism revenue, as an example of a critical business need that requires support from IT.

This video was recorded on Oct. 1, 2024, at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers annual conference in New Orleans.
