North Dakota ‘first’ state to launch high-school transcript app

The North Dakota Department of Information Technology has developed a digital wallet for high school students to share their transcripts with higher-education institutions and potential employers. “These digital credentials are the future for North Dakota and the nation, to allow individuals agency of their learner-employment-experience to gain access to employment opportunities,” Ravi Krishnan, the state’s chief data officer, said in a press release. “It’s a game-changer for students and lifelong learners of all ages and stages of their careers.” Lindsay McKenzie reports.

Ransomware jumps as new strains proliferate

Ransomware cases jumped 47 percent amid a rise in attacks involving newer strains of malicious software infecting targets, according to the cybersecurity firm NCC Group. Reported incidents increased to 198 in July from 135 in June, according to the firm that issues semi-regular reports on ransomware activity by tracking websites that post victims’ details. The LockBit malware accounted for 62 of last months incidents alone, and just this week hobbled a French hospital, forcing it to reroute patients to other facilities. Taking collaboration to the ‘smart cities’ movement

On the latest episode of the Priorities Podcast, Raimundo Rodulfo, the director of innovation and technology in Coral Gables, Florida, says his city’s collaboration surrounding Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami and the University of Miami, is an essential piece to his city embracing what it means to be “smart.” Rodulfo says the different organizations have an agreement to share data around construction and traffic disruptions.
