The waiting continues to be the hardest part

As the wait continues for DHS to publish guidance on the cybersecurity grants contained in last year’s infrastructure law, NASCIO Executive Director Doug Robinson said last week that state governments will likely need an extension to take full advantage of the first year of the four-year, $1 billion program, which is due to distribute $200 million in a fiscal year that expires Sept. 30. "There’s going to be some type of extension because these are current fiscal year funds," he said during an online event with CompTIA's Public Technology Institute. Benjamin Freed has more.

The difference between a CISO and a Cyber Officer

Dustin Glover, who'd been Louisiana's CISO since 2014, got the new job earlier this month of chief cyber officer. While the two titles may sound similar, Glover told StateScoop his new role to fully commit to leading the state's incident response, providing assistance to local governments bitten by ransomware and coordinating with military and law-enforcement agencies. Benjamin Freed has the story.


Rescue Plan as infrastructure preview

New data collected by the National League of Cities, National Association of Counties and the Brookings Institution shows how local governments’ use of American Rescue Plan funds will guide future infrastructure investments. About 5% of funding has been allocated for investments in government facilities, equipment or IT. Infrastructure funding, including ambitious plans to expand broadband access, accounted for 12%. Lindsay McKenzie reports.
