Officials in Portland, Oregon, said last week that the city recently lost $1.4 million to fraudulent activity when a malicious actor gained access to a government email account. The city said the payment was made in late April, but was only detected May 17 when the same account attempted another transfer of funds. Benjamin Freed has more.

No summer vacation for New York's new SOC

The cybersecurity operations center that New York officials opened this year will spend the next few months honing its practices so it can meet state CIO Angelo “Tony” Riddick’s goal of making it an industry-leading operation. “One of the key things we’re going to be doing in the summer is developing and refining processes so it’s not just a one-of-its-kind operation, but that it sets the standard in the United States,” he told us at NASCIO's recent midyear conference. Port of Long Beach hopes ‘Supply Chain Information Highway’ will ease shipping woes

With inflation at a four-decade high and supply chains still contorted after two years of the pandemic, the Port of Long Beach is attempting a salve with what its officials are calling the Supply Chain Information Highway. The new platform, which was announced last week aggregates data from all of the entities operating at the port, including shipping lines, terminals, trucking companies and freight railways, the port's deputy executive director, Noel Hacegaba, told StateScoop.  Ben had the story.
