Old files make for mundane dumps

New details on a January ransomware attack on central Illinois' Griggsville-Perry School District<span> show that while malicious actors were successful in exfiltrating thousands of documents and posting them to a leak site, most of the documents do not appear to be very potent—such as a detention slip from 2014. Maryland's first step on data

Maryland Chief Data Officer Pat McLoughlin said on last week's Priorities Podcast that interagency collaboration was essential for his state’s data inventory effort, which wrapped up in just one month. The inventory project, which was was the first step after Gov. Larry Hogan issued an executive order creating a statewide data office, built off previous successes from the state’s GIS and open-data efforts, McLoughlin said. Listen to the podcast.

Okta says sorry

“We want to acknowledge that we made a mistake,” identity authentication company Okta said Friday regarding a two-month delay in notifying customers about a compromised account at a third-party contractor that potentially exposed customers to risk.
