North Carolina hires first chief privacy officer

North Carolina CIO Jim Weaver announced today the hiring of Cherie Givens, an attorney and former federal contractor, as the state’s first chief privacy officer. Givens, who's advised a range of federal agencies on cybersecurity and privacy policies, will be tasked with building a program of privacy practices and guidelines that can be applied across state government. State CIOs' priorities hold stable heading into 2022

As state governments continue to acclimate to changes made permanent by the pandemic, their CIOs’ priorities heading into 2022 remained largely unchanged. NASCIO's annual list of its members' top 10 priorities found that state technology leaders are most focused on cybersecurity, digital services, broadband development and cloud-based services, with cyber leading the list for the ninth year in a row.
