New Hampshire CISO heads to D.C.

New Hampshire’s statewide chief information security officer, Daniel Dister, is leaving state government to join the Biden administration to help implement its cybersecurity agenda. Dister will work alongside Federal CISO Chris DeRusha — himself a former statewide cybersecurity chief — in carrying out a sweeping executive order President Joe Biden signed in May that aims to expand breach-notification requirements and software security standards for federal contractors, the White House told StateScoop yesterday. The Voltron of smart cities

A group of technology-focused economic development organizations from around the country announced Monday that they have joined together to create a new national partnership for promoting the development of “smart cities” and “smart regions.” The new National Smart Coalitions Partnership will see regional and statewide organizations based in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Texas and the Kansas City metro area formally share practices and strategies. The group will also seek to bridge gaps between state, local and regional civic technology efforts, said Tyler Svitak, executive director of the Colorado Smart Cities Alliance, one of members of this new supergroup. Arizona opens new cybersecurity operations center

Arizona officials on Monday launched a new cybersecurity command center that will pool federal, state, local and private-sector resources to help manage the state government’s information security operations. The center will run out of the state’s counterterrorism information center, continuing Arizona’s push to consolidate cybersecurity with a broader homeland-security operation, Gov. Doug Ducey said. Ben has more.
