Will D.C. actually fix its vaccine website?

Washington, D.C., officials said Thursday a new website that will replace the city’s current system of scheduling COVID-19 vaccination appointments as soon as next week is being subjected to more rigorous user and capacity testing ahead of its launch, potentially providing relief to residents who were <a href="https://statescoop.com/d-c-vaccine-portal-crashes-for-second-day-in-a-row/">stymied last week</a> by coding malfunctions, server outages and other issues. But many concerns about the old site remain unaddressed, especially over whether it was tested before launch, raising questions about the city's ability to deliver digital government services in a time of crisis. “This is not a story about technology,” said Raphael Lee of the U.S. Digital Response. “This is a story about service delivery." Former local IT official wants to 'demystify' digital services

To help small cities and towns go digital, the former digital service director of San Rafael, California, recently announced that she’s launching her own civic technology consulting firm. The business, called the Department of Civic Things, is Rebecca Woodbury’s first venture since departing San Rafael in January after 12 years with the city government and will focus on helping small towns between 10,000 and 15,000 residents. Ryan Johnston has details.


Washington state gets acting CIO

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee this week named Mark Quimby, deputy director for technology and operations at Washington Technology Solutions, as an acting replacement for departing CIO Jim Weaver, who's headed to North Carolina. Quimby, who’s been with WaTech since 2014, has also held several other roles there, including assistant director for network services, enterprise data network manager and disaster recovery architect.   Colin Wood has more.
