Check your RDP settings

A new report by the Center for Internet Security says that organizations, including state and local governments, should double-check their implementation of Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Protocol, which remains one of the favorite target of ransomware actors and other cybercriminals, especially as the work-from-home era continues. But the Upstate New York nonprofit, which runs the MS-ISAC and EI-ISAC, doesn't say RDP should be switched off entirely, but it can be employed more securely. "Just like a piece of wood can be used to build a home, it can also be used as a dangerous weapon, and the same concept applies here.” Benjamin Freed reports.

Simplify citizen services with centralized cloud infrastructure

Michael Leahy, Secretary of IT for Maryland, shares how the state’s cloud investments prior to the pandemic better equipped its workforce to maintain operations after offices closed. He describes how the state has been working over the past three years to create a centralized platform for constituents to access government forms and documents. This environment allows them to use data to track services in demand and build chatbots to help agencies respond to frequent questions. Hear more from Leahy.
