Data privacy key in Austin's new transit system

While Austin residents voted just last week to build out a new 31-stop rail network, the city’s public transportation organization said it is committed to designing the new system with data privacy and user experience in mind. Sharmila Mukherjee, vice president of planning and development for Capital Metro, which operates public transit in the Texas capital, said the agency will be making heavy considerations about how it collects and uses passenger data as the rail lines are built out. Interim CIOs go full-time

The governors of Colorado and Delaware last week announced that their respective states’ interim chief information officers will take over those roles on a full-time basis, officials in both states said. In Colorado, Gov. Jared Polis appointed Tony Neal-Graves to lead the state Office of Information Technology, while Delaware Gov. John Carney nominated Jason Clarke to lead the state's Department of Technology and Information. Benjamin Freed has more.


A New Jersey CISO discusses network visibility

Sajed Naseem, the CISO for the New Jersey court system, described in a recent video interview how the Garden State's judiciary adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning in March, when hearings were forced to go remote, IT officials needed to re-evaluate security risk against the network and devices connecting from employees’ homes, Naseem said. As a security person, he said, you cannot protect something you can’t see. Watch the interview.
