California CIO explains how first generative AI report was made

On this week’s Priorities podcast, California Chief Information Officer Liana Bailey-Crimmins outlines how her office approached putting together its first report on generative artificial intelligence, which was published last month.

Bailey-Crimmins, who heads the California Department of Technology, played a key role in drafting the report — the first major product of an executive order signed in September by Gov. Gavin Newsom — along with the state’s Government Operations Agency and other technology offices. The first report tallied the benefits of generative AI, along with a laundry list of risks the technology could bring.

Also on the podcast, Maryland’s artificial intelligence adviser, Nishant Shah, explains how he’s approaching the new role. And later, Arkansas CIO Jonathan Askins explains how he’s implementing strong cybersecurity governance.
