With the Arkansas Public School Computer Network, the state’sDepartment of Information Systems is working to implement Gov. Asa Hutchinsons goal of ensuring at least 100 kbps Internet access speed per student for school districts in the state. In 2016, the department completed almost the entire project, with final implementations to be completed halfway through 2016. The DIS staff continued the project on pace, even despite the departure of the state CTO. Once completed, the network will support e-learning initiatives across the state and enable more education technology products and platforms to be used in the states public schools.

Since 2008, health care for inmates at Californias 35 state prisons has greatly improved. The process of managing patient care has moved from millions of paper records, to a semi-electronic system of PDFs in 2011, to an electronic health record system (EHRS) in 2017. The new EHRS, coupled with business process changes, has helped CCHCS increase patient safety and continuity of care by integrating all aspects of health. EHRS alsoallows clinicians to manage care based on real-time data. Future enhancements include a fully integrated dental component and an information exchange with outside entities.

The Illinois Enterprise Resource Planning began consolidating and modernizing the state’s information technology systems and applications. To date, the project has successfully implemented and piloted the new statewide ERP solution for four state agencies which has been used to pay out over $100 million in disbursements, process 2,000 payment vouchers and track approximately $50 million of state assets.

The Iowa Department of Transportation unveiled a new way to visualize costs of keeping state-owned roads clear during winter weather. The Winter Cost Calculatorlets users see material, labor and equipment costs expended for the previous 48 hours during winter weather road maintenance activities. Color coded roadways show resource usage and users may click on segments of roadway to get costs specific to that segment, as well as more detailed information such as the last time a plow truck passed the segment, how much time was spent versus time spent applying material, and the length of the segment.

This service has processed 42,784 transactions in less than 9 months, with $829,782.00 in state revenue since inception.

Michigan is unique among the 50 states in having an all-volunteer force of cyber-defenders to supplementstate resources. The Michigan Cyber Civilian Corps (MiC3) hasexperienced volunteers and certified subject matter experts across a wide range of cyber defense skills, with knowledge of tools, techniques, and methods used by attackers against networks and systems, and the expertise to defend those systems. The state benefits by having a group of trained experts fromvarying sectors (finance, health careand academia). Michigan currently has over 50 MiC3 membersbut looks to increase to 200within the next two years.

The Utah.Gov Driver License Practice Exam uses the Amazon Echo to help drivers practice by reviewing questions with the Alexa personal digital assistant. It is the first state government voice activated review test of its kind and provides additional resources for driver education programs in schools and at home. Utah.Gov partnered with the Utah Department of Public Safety and Driver License Division to develop the practice exam for the Echo. The voiceactivated practice exam is a new and convenient way for drivers to review the rules of the road beyond typical online web browsers.
